The Bucyrus Club is our home venue. It's in South Milwaukee, which is home for us too, and some of the Bucyrus staff are literally our neighbors. We see them at the grocery store. That's how close this circle is, and it shows on the wedding day.
A building with real history
The Bucyrus Club sits at 1919 12th Avenue in downtown South Milwaukee, in the city's first factory building, put up in 1892. For decades it was the club for Bucyrus employees, and almost everyone who grew up in South Milwaukee has a memory there: a banquet, a reunion, a wedding, a Friday fish fry.
In 2021, Ernie and Kathy Wunsch of Skyline Catering reopened it after a $5 million renovation, alongside the Bucyrus Museum, which lives in the same building. In 2026 the Wunsches bought the building from the city outright, so it's staying in good hands for a long time.
Two ballrooms, two different nights
Most couples don't realize until the tour that Bucyrus is really two ballrooms with very different personalities.
The 1893 Ballroom is the more intimate room: original wood beams, cream city brick and a warm, close feel. It's great for a party where you want everyone right on top of the dance floor.
The Grand Ballroom is the bigger room, with more height and more floor. When you want a room with presence and a dance floor with room to breathe, this is the one.
The Founders Room works beautifully for cocktail hour, and the museum gives guests something to explore they won't find at any other wedding.
Sound and lighting that fit the room
Brick and beams look incredible, and they also bounce sound around. We tune each room from scratch every time, with full-range speakers and subs placed for the room instead of one loud stack in the corner. Uplighting against that brick is a game changer. We usually run a warm amber glow through dinner, then shift to color once the dance floor opens. Custom monograms go on the brick or a plain white wall, since the old wood-beam ceilings don't take a projection cleanly. And because the house system doesn't reach the cocktail hour space, we bring a separate speaker for that area so the music follows your guests.
The night the whole city went dark
At one Bucyrus wedding, the power went out across the whole city in the middle of the reception. We pulled the battery bank off our photo booth, kept the music going and kept the dance floor lit. The party never stopped. That's the kind of thing you only pull off when you know a room this well.
The family behind it
What makes Bucyrus special isn't just the building. Ernie, Kathy and their daughter Elyse run Skyline Catering and the club, and they put a lot back into South Milwaukee. After the 2025 flood hit South Milwaukee Human Concerns, they hosted a fundraiser at the club that raised more than $100,000. We're proud to be a small part of what they're building here.

FAQ
Have you worked The Bucyrus Club before? Constantly. It's our home venue, and we've worked both the Grand Ballroom and the 1893 Ballroom many times.
Does The Bucyrus Club allow uplighting? Yes, and the brick takes it beautifully. Uplighting is available as an add-on or as one of the two built-in enhancements in our Signature Experience.
What's the difference between the two ballrooms? The 1893 Ballroom is more intimate. The Grand Ballroom is larger, with more dance floor. Both have the original beams and brick.
