If you've ever asked a Milwaukee wedding group for DJ recommendations, there's a good chance someone tagged Chippy. It happens a lot. One thread got thirteen tags from people who didn't even know each other. That's me, Collin "Chippy" Bischoff, founder of Sound Love. Here's the short version of how I got here, and why I still obsess over this job.
It started in a basement
I started DJing at 15, hauling speakers around and figuring out sound in my dad's basement and backyard. I went on to study audio reinforcement and business management at MATC. That turned into MidKoast Entertainment, my first company, and ten straight years of hosting the Cliffstock Arts Festival, a three-day camping, music and art festival in my dad's backyard. Along the way I worked audio and lighting production at Summerfest, State Fair and The Rave. Big stages teach you fast what happens when sound goes wrong, and how to make sure it doesn't.
Then came weddings
I DJed my first wedding professionally at 19, and since 2012 I've been part of more than 600 weddings. Somewhere in there I realized a wedding asks more of a DJ than any stage ever did. You're the host, the timekeeper, the calm voice when something goes sideways, and the person who decides when grandma gets her slow song before she heads home. I started Sound Love to do that job the way I'd want it done for my own family. These days couples bring us well beyond Milwaukee, too, with weddings in Minneapolis, Marquette, Valparaiso and Chicago.
In 2026, Sound Love was voted Best DJ in Milwaukee by the Journal Sentinel and named to The Knot Best of Weddings Hall of Fame. Those mean a lot, because both come from couples and readers, not from us.
I'm also an ordained, certified wedding officiant, and I've had the honor of marrying more than a dozen couples.
Still learning on purpose
The gear is the easy part. Being a great host is the part you have to keep working at. In 2025 I spent two full days in Bill Hermann's Entertainment Experience workshop. Bill is a mentor of mine, and his approach to MC craft and designing peak moments now shapes how our whole team runs a wedding. I came home with the workshop's "Creative License" certificate, and frameworks we now use on every wedding. I've also trained with Alan Berg, Rob Ferre and Mike Wilson. This spring, Carl and I went to Midwest DJs Live, the national DJ conference held right here in Milwaukee. It was my second year and Carl's first. And every week, Carl and I host karaoke at Nashville North on Brady Street, which is about the best mic practice there is.
Anyone can buy speakers. Almost no one invests in becoming a better host.
The standard, even when I'm not behind the booth
Sound Love is a small team now, and I train everyone on it. Every wedding gets two people, our Vibo planning app, a timeline shared with all your vendors and backups of every critical piece of gear. If you want me personally leading your day, that's the Founder Experience, which adds $1,500 to any package. I take a limited number of those each year.
